OUR HISTORY
SERVING SINCE 1957
Saint Luke Lutheran Church received a license to administer a nursery school in 1957, and the Congregation Council authorized the establishment of a weekday Christian nursery program as an educational ministry to the community. Twenty-one students received instruction in that inaugural year.
The school has operated continuously since 1957, and has operated a Maryland State Department of Education approved pre-kindergarten program since 1994. We have gradually expanded enrollment capacity to more than 150 children per year. As a partner in the community for more than 60 years, we are proud to have served the second and third generations of some Silver Spring families.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
The Christian Day School is dedicated to supporting children and their families in our community by providing play-based early childhood education in preparation for Kindergarten. All are welcome!
OUR BOARD
The school is administered by a Board of Directors of up to seven members, approved by the Saint Luke Lutheran Church Congregation Council. The Director of the Christian Day School and the Senior Pastor serve as ex-officio members. Our volunteer board members represent the church and school family and serve a three-year term.
Current board members:
Rob Grace, Chair and Congregation Council President
Jenny Heinbaugh, Secretary
Barbara Sensenig, Congregation Council Liaison
The Rev. Connie A. Miller, Senior Pastor
